University High School’s Mark Cunningham has been named Athletic Director of the Year by the California Interscholastic Federation’s Southern Section.
This represents a major honor for the esteemed football coach and athletic director, particularly considering the Southern Section is by far the largest division of the CIF, as Principal John Pehrson noted in his announcement to the Uni staff.
That said, it isn’t the first accolade that Cunningham has received from the federation, which serves as the governing body for all high school sports. This Friday, he’ll also be honored with the CIF’s Model Coach Award, which is being bestowed upon just 13 coaches statewide. Cunningham and the other recipients are scheduled to be recognized at the Home Depot Center before the state championship football game.
“These awards are well deserved and a testament to the unwavering commitment he has to UHS, as well as all the athletes, coaches and booster groups,” Principal Pehrson said Wednesday. “We are definitely fortunate to have Mark as a part of our team.”
