Woodbridge High principal to start administrative job down south; AP tapped as interim principal

Woodbridge High Principal Jason Viloria will soon be leaving Irvine, having recently been hired as the new executive director of curriculum and assessment for the San Dieguito Union High School District, IUSD Superintendent Terry Walker announced Thursday.

Christopher Krebs, an assistant principal at Woodbridge since 2008, will take over leadership duties as WHS’s interim principal until a permanent successor is named.

“As reluctant as we are to see (Dr. Viloria) go, we know this represents an incredible opportunity for Jason and his family, and there is no doubt he’ll do a great job as San Dieguito’s executive director of curriculum and assessment,” Walker said. “Meanwhile, we have some big shoes to fill at Woodbridge, and though the timing poses some challenges with a new school year just around the corner, we are very grateful to have a talented in-house administrator who has agreed to serve as interim principal for the 2013-14 school year.”

Walker noted that Krebs has “demonstrated significant leadership capacity” in his role overseeing high school summer programs in Irvine. Here’s the full text of the email:

Dear Woodbridge High community member:

Every so often, it becomes necessary for a community to bid farewell to an educational leader who has made an immeasurable impact on a campus and its culture. Such is the case with our own Jason Viloria, who has announced that he will step down as Woodbridge’s principal to accept a high-level administrative position in the San Dieguito Union High School District.

As reluctant as we are to see him go, we know this represents an incredible opportunity for Jason and his family, and there is no doubt he’ll do a great job as San Dieguito’s executive director of curriculum and assessment. Meanwhile, we have some big shoes to fill at Woodbridge, and though the timing poses some challenges with a new school year just around the corner, we are very grateful to have a talented in-house administrator who has agreed to serve as interim principal for the 2013-14 school year.

Christopher Krebs, who has been an assistant principal at Woodbridge since 2008 and a teacher at WHS prior to that time, will serve as principal this year. Chris has demonstrated significant leadership capacity in his role as the IUSD summer school principal and as the principal for the Irvine Public Schools Foundation’s summer school programs. His intelligence, dedication and passion for working with high school students and staff make him an ideal person to support WHS during this transition.

As for the process of selecting a permanent successor, we will be providing more information in the months ahead. Given Woodbridge’s reputation, we anticipate a lot of interest from both experienced principals and up-and-coming leaders.

In the meantime, we wish Jason all the best in his new role, and we know Chris and the entire Woodbridge team will do an exceptional job continuing the drive toward continuous improvement while guiding students through another successful year.

Sincerely,

Terry L. Walker
